Dresden International University is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Antonio Hurtado as the new President.
Prof. Hurtado, born in 1959 in Puertollano, Spain, brings extensive scientific and practical experience to this position. From 2017 to 2020, he was Vice Rector for University Development at TU Dresden and previously Director of the Institute of Energy Technology at the same university. Hurtado has held the professorship for hydrogen and nuclear energy technology since 2007.
Prof. Hurtado’s extensive scientific career includes significant roles in the academic community and in industry. Among other things, he was scientific director of the master’s program »Hydrogen Technology« at the DIU, director of the Summer School for Efficient Energy at the TU Dresden and a member of various committees and commissions, including the 50Hertz Scientific Advisory Board and the Nuclear Technology Competence Network. He has been the spokesperson for the interdisciplinary Boysen-TUD Graduate School since 2012.
With his appointment at DIU, Prof. Hurtado is entering into a comprehensive and strategically valuable transformation process at the private university and will support the management and the entire DIU team in the context of the future-oriented realignment. His academic leadership experience and his network in research and industry will make a significant contribution to the successful further development and innovation of DIU.

»As DIU President, I will contribute my many years of experience from the university and business sectors and help to develop DIU into a modern university for continuing education – both nationally and internationally. The strategic strengthening of the existing good partnership and synergies with TU Dresden is a particular concern of mine, as it is important to strengthen Dresden as a university of excellence and business location. I am looking forward to the intensive collaboration and exchange with Dr. Merle Emre, the Scientific Directors of the DIU degree programs and the entire DIU team,« Prof. Hurtado explains his upcoming tasks.
To mark the start of his tenure, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hurtado gave a ceremonial farewell to DIU graduates at the university’s Absolvia on December 1, 2023.
