DIU appoints new president and relies on management experience, industry network and scientific expertise

Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Antonio Hurtado is the new President of the private Dresden International University (DIU). With his experience in business, industry and university research and teaching, he will provide DIU with important impetus in the current change process for its strategic development on the way to becoming an internationally renowned university of further education.

Dres­den Inter­na­tio­nal Uni­ver­sity is plea­sed to announce the appoint­ment of Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Anto­nio Hur­tado as the new President.
Prof. Hur­tado, born in 1959 in Puer­tol­lano, Spain, brings exten­sive sci­en­ti­fic and prac­ti­cal expe­ri­ence to this posi­tion. From 2017 to 2020, he was Vice Rec­tor for Uni­ver­sity Deve­lo­p­ment at TU Dres­den and pre­viously Direc­tor of the Insti­tute of Energy Tech­no­logy at the same uni­ver­sity. Hur­tado has held the pro­fes­sor­ship for hydro­gen and nuclear energy tech­no­logy since 2007.

Prof. Hur­ta­do’s exten­sive sci­en­ti­fic career includes signi­fi­cant roles in the aca­de­mic com­mu­nity and in indus­try. Among other things, he was sci­en­ti­fic direc­tor of the mas­ter’s pro­gram »Hydro­gen Tech­no­logy« at the DIU, direc­tor of the Sum­mer School for Effi­ci­ent Energy at the TU Dres­den and a mem­ber of various com­mit­tees and com­mis­si­ons, inclu­ding the 50Hertz Sci­en­ti­fic Advi­sory Board and the Nuclear Tech­no­logy Com­pe­tence Net­work. He has been the spo­kesper­son for the inter­di­sci­pli­nary Boy­sen-TUD Gra­duate School since 2012.

With his appoint­ment at DIU, Prof. Hur­tado is ente­ring into a com­pre­hen­sive and stra­te­gi­cally valuable trans­for­ma­tion pro­cess at the pri­vate uni­ver­sity and will sup­port the manage­ment and the entire DIU team in the con­text of the future-ori­en­ted rea­lignment. His aca­de­mic lea­der­ship expe­ri­ence and his net­work in rese­arch and indus­try will make a signi­fi­cant con­tri­bu­tion to the suc­cessful fur­ther deve­lo­p­ment and inno­va­tion of DIU.

»With Prof. Dr. Hur­tado, we are not only gai­ning a per­son with first-class indus­try and sci­en­ti­fic exper­tise and net­wor­king with the TU Dres­den as Pre­si­dent of DIU, but also a per­so­na­lity who will signi­fi­cantly advance the deve­lo­p­ment of this uni­ver­sity with his inno­va­tive and inte­gra­tive mind­set. I’m really loo­king for­ward to working with them,« explains Dr. Merle Emre, Mana­ging Direc­tor of DIU and Head of Know­ledge Trans­fer at TUDAG.

»As DIU Pre­si­dent, I will con­tri­bute my many years of expe­ri­ence from the uni­ver­sity and busi­ness sec­tors and help to deve­lop DIU into a modern uni­ver­sity for con­ti­nuing edu­ca­tion – both natio­nally and inter­na­tio­nally. The stra­te­gic streng­thening of the exis­ting good part­ner­ship and syn­er­gies with TU Dres­den is a par­ti­cu­lar con­cern of mine, as it is important to streng­then Dres­den as a uni­ver­sity of excel­lence and busi­ness loca­tion. I am loo­king for­ward to the inten­sive col­la­bo­ra­tion and exch­ange with Dr. Merle Emre, the Sci­en­ti­fic Direc­tors of the DIU degree pro­grams and the entire DIU team,« Prof. Hur­tado explains his upco­ming tasks.

To mark the start of his ten­ure, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hur­tado gave a cere­mo­nial fare­well to DIU gra­dua­tes at the uni­ver­si­ty’s Absol­via on Decem­ber 1, 2023.
