As part of its modernization and digitalization strategy, Deutsche Bahn (DB) is planning and implementing numerous large-scale infrastructure projects. Overcoming these is an enormous challenge that not only involves managing cost overruns and complex planning processes, but also requires environmental and social aspects to be taken into account.
Whereas DB used to rely on conventional contract models, it now uses the innovative Integrated Project Execution (IPA) model. Within this framework, all planning and construction project partners, such as architects, builders, tradesmen and technical building services engineers, are involved at an early stage in the joint definition of objectives, planning and coordination of the project. This promotes seamless collaboration and helps to avoid delays and reduce costs when all partners are working towards a common goal.
»IPA is a modern, agile project management model for the realization of numerous tasks in large, complex construction projects for the renovation or new construction of transport infrastructure. All key players, planners, construction companies and clients, are involved at an early stage and bound into an alliance with a multi-party contract. In times of scarce resources, this model puts the focus on technical progress, meaningful work and brings back the joy of building for current and future generations,« explains Christian Baehrecke, Managing Director of ISG.
In cooperation with the GWT, under the leadership of university professor Matthias Sundermeier, a new framework agreement was concluded that contractually secures planning support for the initiation of these major projects.
Congratulations on this significant success!
