German-Asian cooperation:
qualification paths for the industry of tomorrow

Germany and the rapidly growing economic areas in South Asia (India, Indonesia, Vietnam, etc.) have a lively cooperation in vocational training. German companies are increasingly active in South Asia, while more and more South Asian specialists are working in Germany. Both sides show a high level of interest in mutual cooperation. The question is sometimes asked what Germany can learn from such cooperation. For us, the cooperation with universities and companies in India and South Asia has brought a number of valuable insights.

Vocational education experts in Dresden are collaborating with partners from France, Belgium, Estonia, and Spain on the professionalization of teachers and mentors in vocational education. In the EU-funded project »Centre of Vocational Excellence« (ProVEST), 23 institutions from the fields of education and training are investigating highly effective learning environments and comparing training practices at the interface of the education sector and industry. The goal is to make vocational education fit for the future. The German ProVEST hub is coordinated by the Technical University of Dresden, with the participation of TUDFaCE and the Learning+Technology Dresden Education Center.
The Dresden team, led by Prof. Thomas Köhler, anticipates a strengthening of vocational teacher training and new impetus for European vocational pedagogy. Professional development programs and masterclasses are being developed, and long-term collaborations between schools, mentors, and companies are being fostered. A key focus is on research workshops and the presentation of results to the regional professional community.
Of particular importance is the collaboration with companies specializing in the training of international skilled workers for Saxon businesses. This allows for a joint approach to addressing skills shortages and issues in international comparative education research. Lernen + Technik gGmbH and TUD FaCE GmbH see this as an opportunity to further establish themselves as partners of excellence.
