Prof. Dr. Stefan Bornstein
Prof. Dr. Stefan Bornstein is an internationally renowned endocrinologist whose research focuses on diabetes and the adrenal gland. He is the Director of the Medical Clinic, the Outpatients' Department III and the Center for Internal Medicine at the Dresden University Hospital. He is speaker of the specific research area/Transregio 205 "The Adrenal-Central Relay in Health and Disease" that conducts research on the adrenal gland and the Graduate College International Research Training Group (IRTG) 2251 "Immunological and Cellular Strategies in Metabolic Disease". He is the site speaker of the specific research area/Transregio 127 Xeno "Biology of xenogeneic cell, tissue and organ transplantation - from bench to beside". In November 2018, Professor Bornstein received the Federal Cross of Merit (1st class) for his scientific and social engagement and his extensive international appearances.

From basic chemistry to innovation: Research at the Chair for Molecular Functional Material focuses on graphenes, two dimensional nanomaterials, conjugated organic materials and high-carbon molecules and materials for the next generation of electronic devices and the storage, generation and transformation of electricity. The pioneering work for a scalable and environmentally friendly setting up of high-class graphenes led to the outsourcing of the firm Sixonia Tech which now delivers innovations from the laboratory to the real world.
